I prefer Jade Asian more, but Asian Jewel’s Taro Dumplings are much better. ![]() This year we went to Asian Jewels Seafood Restaurant. Every New Year’s Eve morning we head to Dim Sum. My family celebrates New Years during eve. They’re the miniature and crisp version to crepes. The batter is also coconut milk based, but they are grilled in molds and then folded into their shape. Lastly, around the edges are Kuih Kapit or Chinese Love Letters ( recipe here). In the middle, there are Honeycomb Cookies or Kuih Rose ( recipe here) Metal flower/honey comb rings are dipped in a coconut milk batter and deep fried. Pork floss, chili and dried shrimp is rolled into spring roll wrappers and deep fried. Since it is everyone’s birthday, Chinese banquet-style restaurants that can seat more than six people per table will be packed. Today is 人日 (‘human day’) or everyone’s birthday. Happy birthday everyone! Chinese New Year festivities run for a course of 15 days filled with red envelopes and lots of food. But for salt lovers like me, I added a dash of soy sauce and a drizzle of sriracha for the extra kick.Īt $2 per bun, it is cheap, satisfying meal if you don’t have time to sit down and eat dim sum. For those who like sweet and savory buns this hits home. The bun tasted like shumai, it lacked a little salt flavor because the bun’s exterior was sweet. It’s a dim sum party shoved into a white edible pillow. The buns are stuffed with quail egg, roast chicken, Chinese sausage, and a meatball made from a mixture of pork and shrimp. I What’s so good about these big buns? They’re just buns right? Turns out they’re much more than just “big”. The first thing she wanted was “dai bao” or big buns. I asked my mom if she wanted any take out dim sum. East Buffet is probably one of the worst rated places (their buffet is a cheap orchestra of grease and overcooked food) in Flushing but I didn’t decide where to eat since I wasn’t paying the check. We went to East Buffet, located about two blocks north of Flushing’s USPS office. A few weeks ago, I went to “yum cha” (translates to “drink tea” but in Cantonese culture, it signifies eating dim sum with tea) with my dad. ![]()
